I recently looked up the word “abundance” in the 1828 version of Webster’s Dictionary. I refer to this version of the dictionary often for a couple of reasons which I feel are worth sharing. 1) In my mind, the definitions from this version have more integrity than what can be found in the current versions of the dictionaries. The meaning of words have become all muddled up as our culture has changed and a prefer a purer version; 2) The 1828 version frequently provides biblical resource examples which I totally enjoy looking up to gain new and greater perspective. And 3) I have found that if you truly want to understand what a man means when he speaks, look up the words in the dictionary. The dictionary was written by men and so represents their intentions in their speech very well.
So back to the topic I wanted to share…..
As I am sure you are aware, the dictionary provides a variety of definitions. This was the one that caught my eye…”it denotes also fullness, overflowing, as the abundance of the heart“. There were 2 scriptural references provided:
Did you see the WOW in this? Maybe it’s just me, but I have some serious brain neurons going off in rapid fire succession and I’m thinking that I have just stumbled upon the REAL Secret! It’s ALL about what is in your heart! It’s not about completing the on-line abundance course or following the prescribed steps to create abundance; it’s not about “doing”….it’s about “being”. What you create in your heart is what will come back to you. If you have a closed heart, damaged heart, unforgiving heart, broken heart, fractured heart, hard heart, wicked heart or have built walls around the heart, then these things will compound exponentially in your heart creating an abundance of these experiences.
Abundance also comes with a changed heart, loving heart, caring heart, contrite heart, forgiving heart, open heart, sharing heart, abundant heart. It is within your heart that this kind of beautiful, peaceful, joy and abundance is created and even more of it flows to you as you flow out goodness to bless others. It starts with “being” in your heart.
What would you like to have more abundant in your heart?
